Man’s quest for knowledge and living is continuing and ever flowing for life long with not easier and some times peculiar unlimited questions which are unanswerable unto an uncertain, unsin goal. Long long ago even centuries and centuries or is it half of a thousand crore of years when after being thrown out from the parent body sun, the planet earth bearing this world began to move round the sun with the speed of 67,000 miles/hour. During these millions and billions, eras and years what a lot has happened and how we have come down into the ground from Heaven and how we have grown.
On all the questions of man’s quest there is no end, no answer, for this world of ours rolls on and the men and women and children in it laugh and weep and love and hate and fight each other unceasingly.
Undoubtedly the flow of life groan to be flowing faster, its tempo is swifter and changes come rapidly one after the other. The click of clock is never still, it beats up all through days and nights and also sometimes as now it rounds rightly but pity fully ignoring our little wills and desires sounding cruel mock of our petty shelves.
Let us pause and think for a while. How do we stand on this mid summer days in the mid year of Two thousand and eleven (the time of writing the article)! Twelve-o-clock, some body says, is an ominous signal to some man and woman, but to every man it is simply the time to begin with and the ending of a calendar day and the days on ward.
On all days and nights, months and years with an exception of natural disasters like draught and flood, storm and thunder, earth quake, ocean’s mountain-proven wave and some happenings from imagine divinity, all inventions discoveries, disturbances, social occurrences are the tests of man’s quest for achieving and surviving.
“Survival of the fittest” make us sense how the world has changed step by step and developed and progressed and sometimes gone back, make us see something of the old civilizations and how they have risen like the tide in the river and thereafter subsided, make us realize how the river of history has run on through age to age interminably and definitely with eddies and whirling pools and back waters and then rushes on and on.
Should you like to guess over man’s over all trail and follow it up from the early beginning when he was hardly a man to today, when he prides himself so much rather vainly and foolishly on his great civilization. I (the writer) am afraid as I have not got that power to go into the truth and so I must rely upon my trembling imagination to work the miracle. Though I have been a slave driven in the chariot of the school of Psychology, with little leisure for other thoughts, my mind has often wandered to the days when as a student I haunted the Laboratories, besides Psychology Laboratory, Particularly the Laboratories of the department of Physics and Statistics of the home of Science – Dhaka University, Oxford of the East. And though circumstance made me part company with science, my thoughts turned to it with longing. Psychology ultimately led me to my profession and inevitably it led me to science and the scientific approach to all problems and to life itself. We see the man’s trail since he emerged out upon stumbling and slouching from the jungle. It has been a long trail of many thousands of years. Although how short a time it is if we compare this to the earth’s journey around the aeons of time as man came only twenty lacs years ago since the creation of the earth.
Curiously enough man of all ranks ranging from earthen pot to diamond plate with inborn tendencies and environmental belongings, man is usually more interesting than all the big animals existed before him. He is interesting because he brought a new thing with him which the others do not seem to have had. This was mind- curiosity, the desire to find out things and to learn some thing in the way to quench his thirst of quest. Just observe a little baby- a new nate, how it looks at the new and beautiful world, how it begins to recognize the surroundings and the people, how it learns to deal with everything bit by bit. Look at a small girl if she is healthy and wide – awake person, she seems to chewing her lips with the query of dozens of questions about birth and death, days and nights, rains and draught and what is right and what is wrong and what not. This is not as because of the fact that “women talk too much”. This pit – pat of eyes, cheeks and lips of the poor girl mainly reminds us of the paradox- “a child may ask hundred questions which parents can not answer”.
In the dawn of history when man was young and the whole world was unfamiliar and rather fearsome to him, he must have looked and shared all around him and ask questions. Who was he to whom ask except to himself! There was no one to answer his how now, now and then all bit – bat. But he possessed an amazing little thing – mind within, with the help of that pretty something slowly and painfully he went on storing his all experiences. Thus from the time immemorial up to the present days man’s quest has been stepping forward and he has found lot of things and yet many a still remains. A man equipped with his well – to do head and pen wandering about every faculty of knowledge irrespective of science and religion, ethics and intuition as he advances on his trail, he discovers numbers of new tracts stretching out that show to him how far he has been from the beginning of his quest up to the end, if there is such an end.
Ethics Religion, philosophy, science and psychology have all considered them and given ample answers to all questions of man. May I be excused, I have got the trouble with all of these answers for the sufficient reason that I do not understand most of them. They all speak the truth for themselves and which one to be accepted truly to the truest sense of the term!
Term by term what and how, how much have been the query of man. Whither does he journey on the eternal high way of living and dying with or without reason. Religion has attempted to give a complete answer and at the same time, to some people, the meaning of answer has often cared a little for the mind. The age of faith is past. All over the world today, there is a spiritual crisis, a questioning of old values and beliefs. The whole world is one vast question mark. There is questioning about everything. Every where there is doubt and restlessness. Even every where the statesmen are at their wit’s end. The world of today is dying. All the king’s men will not be able to keep it alive. Perhaps religion has, after all, sought to enforce obedience to its disciples in various ways. God is the science of sciences. Embracing both science and religion, Godhead is a scientific religion and they religious science. Still the religion of the day is but a series of man-made dogmas.
Science is giving a dynamic, practical and partly hesitating reply, for it is the nature of natural science not dogmatize rather to experiment and depend upon the mind of man and woman.
As many as ten billion (one thousand crore) of neurons have been there in the zig-zag layer of human brain – cell where the mind exists in. Yet man of high intellect may not in a position to find answers to all questions of his quest with any assurance. Once the scientific theory claimed that the sun runs round the earth, at another once it disclosed the fact that the earth moves round the sun. Sir Issac Newton, who is known as the father of science, estimated according to the information from Bible that the world will come to an end around 2060. Scholars, behind this storm, at home and abroad stated that Newton in this regard actually referring to a time when the restiveness of the World was to be replaced by an era of divinely inspired peace and stability.
Certainly the science itself says that if all things go all right as is going on at present in accordance with disciplines in the movement of the stars and planets and if the scientific calculation is right to the best, then the world will exist at least one billion (one hundred crore) years more.
More or less vacellately, the science of course in its course of adventure has been perceiving lines of man’s vision dividing into two: man looks at the out side as well as into the inside too. He tries to understand the Nature and also to understand himself. “Know thyself” said the great philosopher Socrates.
Philosophy is the father of science, and the father sleeps in the heart of his child. Chapter of science is indeed spreading its ways ever further and taking charge of both lines of thought’s waxing and waning and coordinating them vigorously.
Virtually the mind of man has carried him a long way to his voyage of discovery. He strives to learn more about the Nature. He has utilized it and harnessed it to his own adventure and then he has own more power. But unhappily he has not known how to utilize the power properly and he has often missed it.
Miserably and minutely every off and on man has been striving to his utmost up to what happens in the long run through his long - thirst quest to know the unknown. Outer space may unveil the ultimate frontier but the most critical challenges that confront us now is to discover the inner space – understanding the behavior and human nature.
Next to NASA, LUC (Lurge Haydren Colieder) an European Science Organization has been endearing to bring about an indication of the Big- Ben Theory. The LUC – Scientist have been able to create a particular type of sub-atomic particle otherwise named as “God- particle” possessing an energy of motion with the speed almost equal to the speed of light. The scientists of the organization are apt in the assumption that this sub-atomic particle might help to disclose the explanation of “that” very biggest explosion of Big- Ben, and the explanation may unveil the greatest mystery of the creation of space – the great universe.
Universally in this modern world, enjoying the wonders of science, the quest of man is ever pointing to the path of high purpose and noble endeavour. In his endeavour effort man has come to know (though a little) that one hundred crore of Nebulae has been discovered up till this day and being discovered day by day. Every Nebulae is a broad space, beyond imagination of the common people, composed of a circle with the diameter of one light year (three lacs km60 60243012). In one of these sky-hike countless nebulae our solar system is existing and each nebulae has its so, so many solar systems.
Systematically each highly bright star has formed a solar system of its own with itself the center of the systems as the sun is in our solar system. Over and above there are hundreds of thousand stars in the high sky. Out of these innumerable bright astronomical bodies in our solar region, for instance, ten thousand stars can be viewed with naked eye in the clear nice night – sky. And each one like the sun (the nearest star from the earth) is emitting light in each and every fraction of a second with scores of thousands of light rays, the height of the highest ray of this kind being 80,000 – 1,20,000 miles to note.
Notably all these nebullai are again revolving with tremendous speed (can’t be countable by the latest devised speedometer) round a twinkling of light. Tiny to the sight but potent in might this omnipotent flash in the flight of optical science far the most is the source and root of all the best – energy that creates the all creations in the universe and this erst while universe itself has been created by what an unimaginable, invisible mysterious energy once upon a time, the scientists think and belief. But the “Cockpit” of that greatest secrete and sacred LIGHT which is seeding and spreading out these enormous energy no science and scientific knowledge can ever be able to enter into.
